Open Mind

As a nurse it is very important to utilize the skills and knowledge we have to help benefit the patient. As a nurse one must keep an open mind towards patients. It is easier said than done, however when dealing with a patient that is perhaps different or perhaps difficult one must maintain a calm presence. There are many ways in which a nurse may conduct his or herself with a patient. A nurse may influence a patient’s comfort level in which he or she presents herself by using non-verbal cues. Essentially, a nurse’s body language may influence a client’s way in perceiving a nurse’s sincerity.

Communication and technology

Nurses and health practitioners are able to revolutionize the way that they interact with patients and deliver quality care. Information and technology, by in large reduces many of the factors that plague the health care system. Factors such as reducing errors in hospitals, and improving spending cost in a hospital. Information and technology aids the health care system by reducing many of the unnecessary accidents that occur in the health care settings. In addition to adverting redundant accidents, information and technology also improves the quality of care. Basically without the advancement of information and technology, the health care system wouldn’t be able to provide quality and efficient care. Telemedicine and the accessibility would be rendered useless without the information and communication. Information and technology makes communicating with other colleagues effortlessly. It transforms the way health care providers provide for the sick and deliver care.

Need of Knowledge base theory and experience to make nursing science unique

From years of acquiring knowledge based theory and competence, it is a nurse’s goal to facilitate to a patient’s needs. Even though knowledge based theory and competence are important, they are only a selection of what a nurse needs to become a successful nurse. According to Gail J Mitchell in her article Specifying the Knowledge Base of Theory in Practice, that

“Nurses using these practice modes and other based on nursing theory foster the advancement of nursing science by explicitly contributing to the uniqueness of nursing.” (Mitchell, 1992, p. 2).

Therefore, by utilizing knowledge based theory, experience and competence, it not only helps the patient it also creates the uniqueness of the nursing profession as well as advancing the nursing science.
